The A.D.M.G are initials in Latin for
'Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam' meaning 'For the greater Glory of God'

The centre of the memorial originally had a crucifixion scene with Christ looking down at a dead soldier and was on the left hand side of the Chancel just before the Children's Corner

Alfred was wounded in the head on 15 May 1915, he rejoined his regiment Dec 1915.
Aug 1916 went to Cadet school and commissioned Sep 1916 to Manchesters.
During an assault of Bullecourt leading his men under a violent artillery barrage he was struck on the side of his head by a shell splinter.
Awarded Military Cross for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty "He led his platoon in a most gallant manner, driving the enemy out of their position and reaching his final objective".
