Cattle Market Hotel

Updated December 22, 2016 1:23 PM

Photo from my album

The Cattle Market Hotel (originally called "The Spotted Cow" ) closed in 2013/14.

It was subjected to an arson attack in 2014 and has since been demolished.

1873 April 15th
On Monday afternoon, the Easter show of horses was held on the Cattle Market, Orlando St. The arrangements for the exhibition were far batter than in previous years, a large arena being formed by means of stakes and a wire fence, thus enabling the animals entered for competition to be shown without danger to the public and to the advantage of the horses themselves. The day being especially fine and warm, notwithstanding the price of admittance to the ground was double that charged formerly, there was a very large gathering of admirers of horseflesh, a crowd of two or three deep standing entirely round the ring.
Taken as a whole the show may be pronounced a success, both regards the numbers of entries, and the numbers of animals actually exhibited, to say nothing of the quality of the horses.

1875 March 24th On Easter Monday, the annual show of entire horses was held in the Cattle Market, Orlando St. There was a large attendance of spectators, and the show was much superior, both in numbers and quality, to previous years.
